The First Diet You NEED To Be On

There is a myriad of diets, workouts, and tips out there to capture the heart and minds of the masses, hopeful and time-crunched. I promise that I will address some of these things down the road, but for now, I will clear out some of the noise and give you the first diet you need to be on before you can truly succeed in any meaningful way.

 Netflix.

Listen, please don’t come for me on this one, I waited until Game of Thrones was finished.

There was a time when I would have spoken differently, but these days I am in no way debating the skill and art of a lot of these shows.  I STAND for Netflix, and I would regard you suspiciously if you don’t have it or aren’t at least considering using a friends password, but I will say that if you are doing the most, or if you are doing the national average then you are doing too much.

Time is the number one reason/excuse we make for not making a change, and I will tell you when starting a new exercise, nutrition, or wellness practice it is 100% true that you’re gonna need some more time.

There is ALWAYS going to be some new time suck to it as you get started.

For example, when I was doing the Whole 30, I was CONSTANTLY, cutting, chopping, cooking, and cleaning food. Then I was in a non-stop cycle when it came to washing the dishes. My hands were so dry no amount of lotion it seemed could keep me from looking like Ashy Larry.

That said if you are to utilize the same 24 hour hours that Beyoncé has to get closer to greatness, you’re going to have to give something up or at the very least cutback, and I propose we start with TV and all of its offshoots. Note while I may say Netflix let’s be clear I mean all of it, HBO Go, Amazon, Hulu, your local cable and dish networks, Youtube and even IG TV (I see you), this list isn’t even close to exhaustive.

When looking at ALL parts of your life, including your television consumption, we should remember:

-Portion control is the key to everything.

-You should never have too much of a good (or bad) thing.
— Common Knowledge

If we can agree that binge eating and drinking aren’t the best for us, we need to come to terms with the fact is neither is binge watching. Please DM me about how I felt after watching about 4.5 hours straight of Riverdale season 3, the hangover was real.

I’m not going to judge your Kardashian obsession, though if you have one I may have to ask you to leave unless you are here for help.

That said I am proposing a win-win for a way to cut back and reward yourself for doing all the other good things in the process.

Instead of these occurrences with your screen, streaming your favorite shows or the trash you hate watch, go uncontemplated as something you just “do”.

Let’s make this activity something you

“GET TO DO”

Hopefully, despite some backslides here and there you are mostly starting to see you are more consistently hitting your challenge goal daily.

For getting to mark your IS in the corner of your calendar daily (or sticking your gold stars or smiley faces or whatever it is you are doing) and inching closer to your new norm, you should be rewarded.

For every day you killed it,

You get

ONE HOUR of TV WATCHING

simple as that.

Complain if you want to, but I did say at the top of this post that this was, in fact,

A DIET.

Once you start this, you will find there are many days you don’t even care to watch TV, and that’s good ’cause somewhere down the road when you are ready to watch you will be happy you banked those days, to binge (a little).

Will you be out of the water-cooler talk?

Yep.

Will you need to avoid spoiler alerts like the Bubonic plague?

Oh Mos Def!

Will you feel so bored with all this free time that you go and decide to chop up veggies midweek?

Maybe.

Pro Tip: Shows that clock at closer to 30 min will make you feel like you are getting more bang for your buck and I can HIGHLY recommend a few expertly crafted shows (plus one that is the television equivalent of a fully loaded chilly dog, a bit of a weird taste in your mouth but still shamefully and oddly satisfying).

These shorter streaming shows are dense and will keep you satiated longer with half the mental calories.

Happy Dieting

Good luck!
